Company Holiday Parties

One of the perks of a full-time position is company-sponsored events. Often times, the biggest annual event is the office holiday party. It’s a great chance to socialize with co-workers outside of the office and enjoy a night out on the town!

With this being my first year in the real world, and thus my first holiday party, I was both excited and nervous. I couldn’t wait to spend some time with my fellow associates at a beautiful venue, but I also knew that I needed to keep in mind that this was, in the end, a work function.

One of my biggest concerns was finding the right dress. I wanted something fun and festive without being too short or revealing. Luckily I found the perfect choice hidden in the back of my closet — talk about budget friendly!!

After observing the dresses of my fellow female co-workers this weekend, I took to one of my favorite sites, Polyvore, to find some possibilities for anyone who is still trying to figure out the right outfit for their own company holiday party. These are all great work-appropriate, festive and budget-friendly options for this holiday season!

I’ve come up with a few tips to go along with these examples:

-It’s all about balance. If you’re going with a shorter dress, make sure it’s more covered in the chest area, or has sleeves of some sort. And vice versa, if the top is a bit low cut, make sure the bottom isn’t too form-fitting.

-Ask your co-workers what they’re planning on wearing, especially those who have been to a holiday party for your company before. This will give you an idea of what the general standard is, since it’s different for every company.

-Always remember that your bosses are going to be there. It is much better to err on the side of conservative!
